Morgan Stanley analysts are bullish on financial stocks, and highlighted a list of their "overweight" rated ones.

The financials sector (NYSEARCA:XLF) was upgraded to overweight by Morgan Stanley analysts early in October due to a de-risked set-up into the earnings season, accelerated capital markets activity, and valuations and positioning that looked attractive.

The group’s outperformance was also due to strong earnings revisions, and most recently to the results of the presidential election, as expectations for deregulation are driving performance.

The financial selector sector ETF (XLF) is up 33.15% year-to-date, and up 5.53% in the past month. Similarly, the Vanguard Financials Index Fund (VFAIX) is up 32.58% year-to-date, and up 7.11% in the past month.
