On December 30, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to Iraq Cui Wei visited the UEG SIBA gas field, inspected its operations, and gained insights into the achievements of China-Iraq energy cooperation. This visit not only highlighted the Chinese Embassy's attention to the UEG project but also bolstered the project team.

在考察现场，崔巍大使详细了解了SIBA气田核心设施和运营情况。该气田作为伊拉克首个天然气开发合同的重要组成部分，长期稳定供应天然气给巴士拉附近电厂，对当地能源供应安全与稳定做出了重要贡献。考察期间，崔巍大使还亲切慰问了一线员工。
At the inspection site, Ambassador Cui Wei gained in-depth understanding of the core facilities and operations of the SIBA gas field. As a key component of Iraq's first natural gas development contract, the gas field has been supplying natural gas steadily to power plants around Basra, making significant contributions to the security and stability of the local energy supply. During the visit, Ambassador Cui Wei also extended warm regards to the frontline employees.

Ambassador Cui Wei held a discussion with representatives of the UEG Iraq team, debriefing several projects and fully acknowledging the achievements of the project teams in complex geological environments. Ambassador Cui Wei pointed out that 2025 will be a crucial year for China-Iraq energy cooperation. He emphasized the importance of safety production and expressed his expectation for UEG to open a new chapter in China-Iraq energy cooperation.
